2) self-learning, intelligent "GENERA, ABBREVIATIONS & PARENTAGE DATABASE" (G,A&P-DB)

1) self-learning, intelligent "YOUR PERSONAL ORCHID DATABASE"

INTRODUCTION
Store information of your own orchid collection, with photos and your personal observations, in the "YOUR PERSONAL ORCHID DATABASE" (YPO-DB).
The YPO-DB can store, display, update, delete and handle more than 100,000 orchid entries. This is sufficient for most (including professional growers') orchid collections.
Once you have added one or more orchid entries to your YPO-DB, additional functionalities such as Display, Update, Delete, Greenhouse Worksheets, Flowering Schemes, etc., become available and accessable. These functionalities can be selected from "YOUR PERSONAL ORCHID DATABASE" Main Menu .
For each individual orchid entry, 71 orchid features can be stored, handled and processed. These 71 storable orchid features are divided into 60 actual/permanent/updatable orchid property components, and 11 historical/appendable orchid property components.
In addition, for each orchid entry separately, a photo or another image can be stored, retrieved, and displayed together with the other stored information of that orchid entry.
Adding new orchid records to the database has become easy through the self learning, intelligent storage properties of the database.
Also, retrieving orchid data from the database has become easy by the self learning, intelligent retrieval properties of the database.
Calculations of repotting, watering and fertilizing schemes per orchid entry are automatically performed, based on the preprogrammed, selectable frequencies you have entered into the database for a particular orchid entry. Greenhouse Worksheeets, based on these calculations and comprising all orchids in your collection can be listed/printed.
You can list which orchids will flower in which period through automatic calculation of the flowering schemes.

1a) Database Main Menu
The Database Main Menu and database submenus possess the following selectable features:

1d) photo or other image per stored Orchid entry
For each Orchid entry, a photo or another image can be stored in the database. During display, this photo or image can be shown (nearly full screen) in conjunction with displaying the other stored orchid information of that orchid entry.

1e) self-learning, intelligent storage aspects during adding new records
With most database, one has to type a lot of data in the input (screen) fields of that (orchid) database.
In MöhltiMedia's "YOUR PERSONAL ORCHID DATABASE" (YPO-DB) this is not necessary anymore. A lot of (selectable) input data has already been preprogrammed and is shown in context sensitive drop down lists. After mouse-click-selecting the desired data input from a variety of dropdown lists, the selected data is automatically inserted in the corresponding (screen) input fields.
Filling Your Personal Orchid Database this way, has become very easy and reduces the possibilities for errors. It has almost become a pleasant activity.
In addition, all orchid naming data that you added during filling the YPO-DB is included in real time in the various corresponding context sensitive dropdown lists. In other words, your YPO-DB "learns and remembers" on the fly what you have added to it and adds that information momentarily to the relevant dropdown lists for an enhanced selection scope thus facilitating entering future, new data records.

1f) self-learning, intelligent retrieval aspects during display of orchid records
Displaying orchid data has become easy since the desired orchid is shown in a real time updating drop down list compriding the desired orchid name. No extensive paging, flipping, sliding, or browsing through orchid records is required any more.

1g) calculation of schemes, intelligent aspects of Greenhouse Worksheet generation
Based on the repotting, watering and/or fertilizing frequencies you inserted to the database, the Orchid Database calculates for each plant the dates and schemes when such activities should take place.
One can list and print out worksheets/work orders covering a selectable period (days or weeks). These worksheets summarise plants and corresponding dates related to repotting, watering or fertilizing activities to be carried out.

1h) automatic calculation of flowering schemes
If you want to have an orchid collection that provides flowers the whole year round, you may want to store the flowering data and expected flowering frequencies. Based on this information, automatically calculated expected flowering schemes for any forthcoming period, can be generated and printed.

2) self-learning, intelligent "GENERA, ABBREVIATIONS & PARENTAGE DATABASE" (G,A&P-DB)

INTRODUCTION
First, you can select whether you want to deal with Botanical or Hybrid orchids.
The "GENERA, ABBREVIATIONS & PARENTAGE DATABASE" (G,A&P-DB) contains a starting, preprogrammed set of 833 botanical and hybrid genera and their abbreviations.
If you wish, you can add new orchid genera and corresponding abbreviations to this database.
Retrieve and display (>= 833) stored genera and abbreviations by typing only the initial 1, 2 or 3 characters of the desired genus.
One can also retrieve the parentage of a hybrid orchid by typing the initial 1, 2 or 3 characters of the leading genus of the hybrid cross.
If corrections have to be made to the "GENERA, ABBREVIATIONS & PARENTAGE DATABASE", this can be done in the DISPLAY, UPDATE and DELETE section of the G,A&P-DB page.
The genera, abbreviations and parentages (in case of hybrids) can be listed and printed.

2a) adding new genera and abbreviations to the "GENERA, ABBREVIATIONS & PARENTAGE DATABASE"
If you come across a new genera and corresponding abbreviations that have not yet been included in the G,A&P-DB, then you can add these to the G,A&P-DB.
In case of hybrid orchids, you can also insert the parentage to the G,A&P-DB (with parentage is meant here: the parent genera that have contributed to the hybrid genera).

2b) Retrieve and display genus by typing only the 1, 2 or 3 initial characters of the desired genus
No need to type the full genera name to retrieve the corresponding data. Type only the 1, 2, or 3 initial characters of the genus. Then, a "short list" appears comprising all genera (and abbreviations) starting with the inserted initial characters. In case of hybrids, the parentage is shown, too. Select the desired genus from the short list. The genus and corresponding information is displayed in the DISPLAY, UPDATE and DELETE section of the page.

2c) Retrieve and display parentage by typing only the 1, 2 or 3 initial characters of the leading genus
A hybrid cross may contain 9 contributing genera. By typing 1, 2 or 3 initial characters, the parentage will be shown starting with the genus that comprises and matches the initial characters.
The corresponding hybrid genus and abbreviation will be shown, too.
After selection the parentage, abbreviation or genus, the corresponding data will be shown in the DISPLAY, UPDATE and DELETE section of the page.

2d) DISPLAY, UPDATE and DELETE section of the G,A&P-DB
Genera, abbreviations and parentages that have been selected through one of the possible methods will be displayed in the DISPLAY, UPDATE and DELETE section of the G,A&P-DB page.
Here, corrections, updates, etc., can be applied, to maintain the G,A&P-DB.

2e) List and print genera, abbreviations and parentages
The genera, abbreviations and parentages that are present in the the G,A&P-DB can be listed and printed.
First, select Botanical, Hybrid, or All orchids. Then, the list with genera, abbreviations and parentages appears and can be printed.
